Fender 25th Anniversary Stratocaster - 1979
Well, hereâs a guitar that should have been sent back to the factory in 1979 to be refinished in silver, but somehow, it managed to escape the recall. Fender had a big paint problem with this model and most of the finishes on them started cracking into pieces so they recalled the first 500 guitars and sent them back to the factory to be refinished. To have survived to this day is an amazing feat but this guitar also has another story to tell. According to Gary Davies, Author of Anniversary Strat, (a great book) Fender had prepared around ten of these Stratâs to give to families of rock stars that helped make the Strat an icon; Rory Galagher, Buddy Hollyâs widow, Eric Clapton, amongst others. These had different serial numbers to the normal version of this guitar. Roryâs was number 4, Ericâs number 2, Buddyâs widow, Maria, was number 9 and reportedly, The Hendrix family had been earmarked for number 10; this guitar. Itâs in pretty good shape other than the paint and everything appears to be original on it too. It plays real good and itâs ready to play if you dare; you might just leave a few âbreadcrumbsâ on the floor if you play it too hard! It comes with its original Fender ABS case and a copy of Garyâs great book. Grab yourself a piece of collectible Fender history.
